Academy Newsletter: January 2023

It’s not too late for new students to join the Academy this year, but close of enrollment is right around the corner! Registration for the current Academy year closes on January 25, 2023. Do you know someone looking to begin ballet classes or expand their training? If so, please invite them to visit our website for registration information or contact the Academy staff with questions.

Schedule Changes: January 25 is the final day for currently enrolled students to submit schedule change requests. We know a new year can bring new family commitments or a change in school schedules. If you need to adjust your class schedule, please fill out a Schedule Change Request Form by clicking HERE.

We’re pleased to announce dates for our 2023 youth summer programs!

Youth Summer Intensive
Youth Summer Intensive provides young, aspiring dancers with an entrée into intensive summer training in a fun and nurturing environment. Otto M. Budig Academy students interested in continuing their training in Youth Summer Intensive 2023 do not need to audition. Eligible students will receive notification of their placement and registration information later this month.

Save the date! Youth Summer Intensive will be held the weeks of June 19-30 and July 10-21, 2023.

Summer Dance Workshop
Summer Dance Workshop is a week-long summer dance experience for young dancers ages 8-11 with at least one year of formal ballet training. Eligible students will receive notification of their placement and registration information later this month.

Save the date! Summer Dance Workshop will be held the weeks of June 5-9, June 12-16, and July 31-August 4, 2023. Registration will open in February.

Kids Dance Camp
Kids Dance Camp is a creative exploration of dance, music and art through beloved stories, for dancers ages 4-8.

A new year is a great time to try something new! We're kicking 2023 off with a week of FREE adult classes to warm our hearts and bodies in the coldest part of winter.

From January 2 - 7, all Adult Dance + Fitness classes are free! Whether you're reigniting a passion or inspiring yourself with something new, we hope to share the studio with you this January as we dance our way into 2023. All experience levels are welcome, so jump in and explore the joy of movement at Cincinnati Ballet.

Progressing to pointe work is one of the most exciting goals for an aspiring dancer. We invite you to join us on Tuesday, January 17, for an information session from 5:00-6:00 PM, as Academy staff and our partners at Mercy Health Orthopaedic and Sports Rehabilitation discuss the important components of evaluation for pointe readiness, pointe shoe 101 and more! This session will be of particular interest to our Preparatory Division 2 and 3 families, but anyone interested in learning more is welcome to attend.

Should severe weather occur or be imminent, we encourage you to check in frequently throughout the day, as class status may change pending information from our trusted sources. If the Academy ever remains open during winter weather and you feel it is unsafe to send your student, please contact us through the usual attendance reporting channels, and your student's absence will be excused.

As we return to classes this week, the Academy's focus turns towards our annual Spring Production. Performance is an integral part of our students' dance education, and we look forward to sharing much more detail in the months ahead about plans for this year’s culminating performances.

Children's Division Costume Measurements: Families with dancers in Creative Dance 1, 2, and 3, CD Boys, CD Tap, and Pre Ballet classes were sent an email over the break with details about submitting costume measurements for their students. Measurements must be submitted via this form by January 8. Please note that costumes should run true to size in line with the measurement ranges detailed on the size chart you'll reference when suggesting a size for your student.

February 10-19: ALICE (in wonderland) at Music Hall

From the fantastic imagination of choreographer Septime Webre comes ALICE (in wonderland). Webre infuses Lewis Carroll’s classic story with humor, color, and irreverence. It’s a visual spectacle with elaborate sets and over-the-top costumes, accompanied by a buoyant score from composer Matthew Pierce performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Follow the White Rabbit to Music Hall and meet the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat, but watch out for the Red Queen, or it’ll be off with your head!
